Character Spotlight: Enya Solaris

Enya has actually been the most difficult character for me to write. She's very different than how I am in real life, but she's a necessary and major part of our story. I had to try hard to make her seem both set apart and relatable. I also had to try to not make her a "Mary Sue" character that's great at everything and has no real weaknesses or flaws.

Enya is kind, compassionate to a fault, powerful, and wise. Where her counterpart, Keeva Starborn, is cold and calculating, Enya is warm and welcoming. While she doesn't mince words, she does deliver them with milk and honey, where Keeva lets them cut like razors. Enya is also one of the Sidhe queens, another heir to the Eternal Diarchy. Enya is 972 years old at the time of our story. As she says in the book, all Sidhe are required to learn to be warriors, especially the queens. She carries a flamberge as her primary weapon.

Character Quote: Enya and Kaelan Varros speaking.

“The Siedhe don’t eat meat?” he asked her, genuinely curious.

“No,” she said, “We believe that all life is sacred and we will not consume the flesh of another living thing that we share this beautiful world with.”

Author's Thoughts: As I said earlier, Enya has been the most difficult character for me to write. She's everything that I'm not in real life. I found the quote in this blog post to be a perfect example of what sets her apart from Keeva and is also a nice summation of her kind, compassionate to a fault character.
