Character Spotlight: Keeva Starborn

Keeva is by far my favorite character in the series to write. She's cold, calculating, ancient, and extremely powerful. Keeva is as deadly as she is beautiful, but in the way that people say a statue is beautiful, cold, stiff, and never changing.

Keeva Starborn is three thousand years old by the time of the events of The Crystal Raven. She is one of the immortal Sidhe, heir to one of the thrones of the Eternal Diarchy of the Sidhe. Keeva sees the rest of the races of the world as beneath Sidhe. She interacts with them only when duty requires it and she never shows humans, elves, dwarves, or any of the other races that she interacts with the same respect that she does her fellow Sidhe.

Keeva's surname, Starborn, isn't one that's earned. In fact, Starborn is a fairly common surname in the Eternal Diarchy of the Sidhe. Any Sidhe who is born during the Winter Solstice, a religious festival for them, is given that surname as a mark of respect to the Goddess, whose power is waxing during the solstice.

Character Quote: Spoken to an elven ambassador during a tense diplomatic exchange:

“Do you honestly believe, elf, that your race, who has existed for only a brief time, has unlocked or understood all the secrets of the Arcane Art? No, but we who cannot die have. I have been walking this world for three thousand years, Ambassador, and in that time, nothing has convinced me that the Goddess did not give the Crystal Raven to Queen Mab before she ascended back to the heavens as our histories tell us.”

Author's Note: Keeva is a character that's just been an absolute blast to write and she's my favorite character in the series. I needed a character to form a counterpoint to the other Sidhe queen who shows up in the story.
