Character Spotlight: Aenara Elaerion

Aenara Elaerion has been another fun character to write. She's bold, witty, personable, and wears her heart on her sleeve. You'll always know what Aenara is thinking. If she doesn't tell you, her body language will.

Aenara is the heir to House Elaerion, one of the nine families that rule the Aeltherian Dominion. Her best friend is Kaelan Varros. They met when they were six and have been nearly inseparable since. Aenara is 26 years old during our story, which is very young for an elf. She's got a temper that can make the fiercest warrior shake in their boots and she believes that a woman, of any race, can do anything a man can do and do it better. Character Quote: Kaelan and Aenara talking after a fight. “You’re a thrice born moron, Kaelan Varros,” she said angrily, “Are you going to fight a wyvern next or perhaps just challenge another kobold clan?”

Kaelan smiled weakly as sensation began returning to his limbs.

“Nice to know that you still care, Lady Elaerion,” he chuckled. She punched him lightly on the arm.

“You know damn well that scared me half to death,” she ranted, “If you ever do anything so foolish, I’ll tie your legs together and hang you upside down from the tallest tree I can find.”

Author's Note: Aenara is inspired by a lot of women in my life. Everyone from my aunt Dana, my wife, and even my editor. She's one of the characters that I respect the most, but sometimes, I struggle to write her because, like with Enya, her attitude and mannerisms are so different than mine, but that's what makes writing so much fun. We get to explore different personalities than our own and bring them to life through words.
